The neutral for the new light is taken from the receptacle and spliced to the new white wire and to a pigtail that connects back to the receptacle. Strip the ends of the wires at the switch box.

How to wire a new light. The box ears should rest tightly against the plaster. Connect the neutral white wires with a wire connector. Connect the ground wires with a 6 in long pigtail wire leading to the switch. Loosen and remove the screws from the cover for the light switch that operates the light using a screwdriver. Remove the old ceiling light. Strip the last one inch of your new black wire and place all three black wires together.

Loop the black wires clockwise around the screws and tighten the screws. It should be 48 from the floor.
Take off the cover and note the color of the wire insulation for the wires that. One wire will come from the light the other from the main electrical circuit of your house. Determine a location for the light switch. From the switch new 2 wire cable is run to the new light location. Disengage the wires by twisting the wiring cap until it comes free.
