Drilling holes in trailer frame. When building airplanes we drilled holes into the aluminum wing ribs to make them lighter then we used a roller to form a lip none of them failed either. I can bolt around the frame but it wouldnt be as secure. You can drill with one bit size but it will go faster drilling stepping up in sizes.
The holes are far enough apart that you would be fine.
