There are two main suspension setups that vehicles with solid axles use. Different vehicles use different setups for all sorts of reasons.

4 link vs 5 link suspension. In our system the ori air strut combined with the superior geometry of our 4 link design eliminates suspension unload completely. Springs take care of supporting the vehicle which leaves the links free to deal with locating and articulation. A 4 link system is more stable and much smoother because of its ability to adapt to the terrain beneath the truck also there is no binding with a 4 link system making the movement of the truck much less restricted. With 4 link suspension the two functions of locating the rear axle and supporting the vehicle are isolated. 5 link rear suspension rear view top view a multi link suspension is a type of vehicle suspension design typically used in independent suspensions using three or more lateral arms and one or more longitudinal arms. Jeeps use the 4 link setup which is theoretically better for off road use but older land rovers use a radius arm setup and are known for excellent off roading.
Wrangler has 5 link suspension front and rear. 3 link sorry to post this but could someone point me in the direction of a thread or threads that discusses the advantages pros and cons etc. But i dont whant to disreguard a nice piece of suspention that i bought and imported to europe. 4 link rear suspension will properly locate the rear axle no matter how soft we want to make the spring. Irs best ride due to lowest unsprung weight. Radius arm or four link. Hensh my question torque arm watts link 4 link suspention vs 5 link suspention. The wj has 5 link in front and 3 link at the back and twists with the best of them. No problem with gatswaai i still maintain that was a poor batch of shocks on the tuna roll.
Im of the upinion that altho it caries more weight with it it can do the job just fine. My frind sais go with the 5 link suspention its a 2 day job to build. Was so long ago now theyve all been replaced anyway. I dont think ive driven a 3 link car but i have driven a 5 link car quite nice. Ive street driven and raced my car extensively with the 4 link until 2001 when i retrofitted the irs and even more experiece since. No comparison for racing or ride.
